Just to give this thread and all you guys some closure, I have not experienced any slowdown on PS1 games since installing Retropie 4.4 from scratch. Perhaps it's the new version, perhaps it was some tinkering I had done and that has now been erased. I did notice that PS1 games tend to slow down on my Pi2 when enabling enhanced resolution, either with or without the speed hack. I have not yet tampered with the overclock settings and I'm not sure if I should, since it's a Pi2... Otherwise I'll simply stick with the bilinear filtering option, which slightly improves graphics, and wait for the Pi4.

Please limit yourself to one post on an issue and as a matter of etiquette, there's never a need for overly dramatic topic titles. Everyone here is more than happy to help without them, you just have to be patient. I'm closing this, but will leave the original open.

@dankcushions said in Garbled Audio when crt shaders enabled:

the ‘new style’ xmb menu is not enabled in retropie by default. we use the old green menu for these kind of reasons. i guess your configs are all messed up and it’s using default retroarch settings, so all bets are off.

Yep. I got it fixed now. Not even sure how exactly but I noticed that my nes and gb system cfg files had a ton of stuff in there copied from the default retroarch. I just rebuilt them by hand and all is well now.

@griffon I hear you. Others have reported similar or related issues, and I have a similar problem on my TV as well, whereby sometimes the audio won't play until I change channels and then come back to the HDMI input on my Toshiba LCD TV.

Clumsy HDMI handshake implementations is my best guess.

@skt For anyone interested and not as tech savvy as others (like me) I deleted everything ffrom the configs/psx foldr and reinstalled the PSX emulator from the Emulation Station - Retropie menu.
      Worked a treat.

Super Metroid (especially noticeable at title screen) I still notice this as well. Trying to figure it out. It also happens on my FPGA SNES so it might be an HDMI issue.

@janlopes really? Where are all the details of your setup? you even say you have tried things? What things? What did you edit? Which file? What did you type? Did you enable audio out properly? What do you have the volume level set to? What emulators have no sound? Which games? Which image? Official? Or a pre-loaded one? To enable others to help you please go back and read this

When you "have done" your post will contain the answers. Then and only then is it possible to even start to assist.

@bytethis right, and I changed the source of course to see the video. But it didn't work until I changed the pi from the HDMI2 on the back of my TV to the HDMI1.

      Boom, plenty of sound.

      Very happy!

      Thanks again,
      Paul
